Hi, I'm
Dennis

About me

I'm a robust and diverse software developer with a mind for user-centered design. My open-minded attitude and eagerness to learn and grow make me a reliable partner for building software solutions that make a difference.

My skills

As a software developer, I am specialized in building back-ends, but I have a variety of complementary skills for front-end and management.

Coding in various languages

I have extensive experience with .NET applications, especially using the modern Umbraco CMS, but I'm familiar with a variety of programming languages and frameworks:

  • Modern .NET, ASP.NET, Entity Framework
  • Umbraco CMS
  • Node, Vite, Typescript and Vue 3
  • Python 3

Professional software development

My work is grounded in evidence and in signals. Using Test-Driven Development, I guide software in the right direction and I can prove at all times that the software works as agreed. I am familiar with enterprise software design patterns.

  • Test-Driven Development
  • Domain-Driven Design
  • Modular monoliths
  • Feature slicing
  • Commands & Events

AI ready

I work with AI on a daily basis to improve the quality of my work. I develop skills, agents and harnesses that improve my everyday workflow.

Cloud native

I am deeply familiar with cloud technology. I work in the Azure cloud every day and I know:

  • Web application hosting
  • Security hardening in cloud environments
  • Tracing, logging and metrics
  • Scalability
  • Infrastructure as code
  • Deployment automation

Communication and process

I am used to working close together with clients. I know how to translate technical jargon into plain language and I know how to make progress visible. I use progress boards every day.

  • Agile
  • Scrum
  • Azure DevOps boards
  • Client communication
  • Teamwork

Read my blog!

My blog is the place where I share new things that I learn. I publish helpful guides on various topics related to writing code and improving developer habits.

Professional experience & achievements

I have made a lasting impact, both in my workplace and in the Umbraco community. These personal achievements illustrate how my skills are aligned with my ambitions.

Umbraco Master Certification & MVP

Umbraco is what I'm most passionate about and I regularly contribute to Umbraco's community. My efforts have earned me 4x the title of Umbraco MVP. Additionally, I am certified as Umbraco Master through Umbraco's training courses.

Enhanced development insights

Working together with my teamlead, I have designed the feature-board that we use to keep insight in ongoing developments. The board and process that we set up together has significantly improved the insight in outstanding work and has eliminated forgotten workitems.

Created and documented CMS design rules

Together with a content expert, I documented the design rules for Content Management Systems in our agency. The CMS design rules have reduced the pressure on support by 50% and all support questions related to content management have been eliminated.

The Ultimate Umbraco Testing Reference

In my GitHub, you can find my current passion project: the ultimate Umbraco testing reference . This project aims to provide examples on how to do every type of testing in Umbraco applications. Starting on the lowest level unit-tests, it provides examples all the way up to end-to-end tests. Automated testing in Umbraco is not difficult, but it takes a bit of effort to get started, so this project aims to lower the bar a little bit.

I am also on LinkedIn

Sometimes I post an update on LinkedIn, mostly when I publish a new blog.
